Welcome to my blog! I am Nan, the human component of this blog. B.A.G.S. (a.k.a. AINE) is my pug. This blog will notate musings, muses and British inspired goodies with an American twist. I own The Portobello Road Shoppe located at theportobellord.etsy.com. My specialties are: sewing, stitching, paper crafting and felting. Oh, and the occasional nummy brownies.
Tis true, my nieces couldn't stop talking about the books so I just HAD to read them! And I have not stopped! I just finished all three books and I thought they are sooooo much better than Twilight. Love the author for making Katiniss so clever.
And the movie comes out this Friday! hazzah! Finally finished the book before seeing the movie!
And than I saw who are playing the parts. Brilliant casting move for Haywitch that is for sure.
Away my own little Buttercup -ie Aine is demanding I go to bed.
Ps To the folks like me who didn't pre order tickets ...And may the odds be for EVER in OUR favor that we will be able to see the movie this weekend!
I never ever though this day would happen. Some of the best years of my life were spent at my All Girls High School St Scholastica and now I hear that that school will be no longer. It is truly a tragedy for all potential Susie's -now called Stingers - that St. Scholastica will be closing. I know it might be old fashioned for me to exclaim the virtue of single sexed education- but believe it or not, it worked for this girl. I may not have any fashion sense at all due to lovely school uniforms(which btw I still have!), but this school made me what I am today.
It was my own little Eton or Harrow in Chicago. It had tradition and academics worthy of those hallowed schools. All my sisters went there and it was the best decision that my Mom and Dad made to send us there. The school was so old that the gym was unusable and Michael Jordan filmed his first commercial there because it was so classic. The Chapel was written up for it's frescos and the restoration. SSA used to be a boarding school and the third floor had tilted mirrors so that the little girls could see themselves while they did their hair. The reunions were amazing and the grounds were mythical.
This is the time that I wish I was wealthy because this school is such a lose to woman and Chicago. It was the last standard bearer for single sexed education and it will be missed.
from NBC NEWS Faced with continued financial issues and a dwindling enrollment, the religious order that has run Saint Scholastica Academy for nearly 150 years has decided to close its doors at the end of the year. "We are deeply saddened by the need to close SSA," Sister Patricia Crowley, Prioress of the Benedictine Sisters of Chicago, said in a statement. "St. Scholastica Academy has educated thousands of young women who have served our world well in business, religious and civic spheres." Among the students at the academy is Amy Blagojevich, one of the daughters of former Gov. Rod Blagojevich. News of the closure hit the family on an especially difficult day. Blagojevich heads to federal prison on Thursday. "That is a grievous blow to both Patti and me. And it is hard on Amy, and we hope... that if there's anybody out there who cares about that beautiful little Catholic school, St. Scholastica, and they want to help keep that school open, if you can open up your hearts and do whatever else is possible to keep that school open, that sure would mean a lot to all of us," Blagojevich said during his farewell remarks outside his Ravenswood Manor home. Crowley said she didn't see the former governor's statement but had received several emails about it. "Amy is a wonderful girl," said Crowley. "She has done well here." The academy said juniors at the school will have the option to continue their education at what will be called St. Scholastica Senior Academy and earn their SSA diplomas upon graduation. If juniors choose to transfer to another Catholic high school, The Benedictine Sisters of Chicago will work with that school to try to arrange for SSA students at that school to receive St. Scholastica Academy diplomas. Alumni of the school includes former Chicago Mayor Jane Byrne.
Soooo sorry all. It has been crazy busy with work-hence blogging has been far from my mind.
On the felting front- I can't wait to start felting the following for The Limited Edition Sketchbook Project. *squee*
Love the variegated roving!
But really- lets talk about Aine and her news.
First of all- she is now the Lorax! Lol. Just kidding of course. But the movie was really good with a fantastic message for us all and the App is way fun. Also my niece loved her Lorax!
But really, this picture of Aine states it all.
Lol Princess on her Mummy Throne. That is my leg she is leaning on while she surveys her domain called the front lawn. I should get her crown out...and she does have one. It made it's appearance at 2 am on April 29, 2011.
So here is her news- Aine had her annual vet check last week and not only does this little girl need to get back to 15 pounds(she is 16 pounds now), I found out that Aine might have an eye issue which would involve surgery. :(. I am extremely hesitant about this because I have had friends' pugs that received this specific type of eye surgery from reputable eye doctors and still no luck. I may still go for all the tests but again, the surgery is considered elective but not, if that makes sense. :( I love my little girl so much, so I am still figuring all this new eye stuff out. Also, eye stuff just grosses me out big time.
So please keep all fingers and paws crossed for Aine and her beautiful eyes and me too so I can figure out my decision. Luckily - I have time-but I need to prepare myself with all options for this Little Princess. ;)
I can't take credit for this idea because Megan was the first to create this cutie. She did such a good job! ! Thanks for the idea Megan!!! I am so glad I found your blog! I love finding new friends that are needle felter's.
I am going to see The Lorax today so I had to make this for my niece. I usually make my nieces and nephews mini versions of their dogs but this niece doesn't have a doggy. :(. So she is getting Megan's Lorax instead!
Aine really isn't pleased with this new friend. Lol
Off to make a Dr Seuss bag to hold her Lorax and his trees! Have a great weekend everyone! Xoxox Nan and Aine
