Welcome to my blog! I am Nan, the human component of this blog. B.A.G.S. (a.k.a. AINE) is my pug. This blog will notate musings, muses and British inspired goodies with an American twist. I own The Portobello Road Shoppe located at theportobellord.etsy.com. My specialties are: sewing, stitching, paper crafting and felting. Oh, and the occasional nummy brownies.
Yes. I am a little late to this thing called Project Life.
I am excited to use all the bits and bobs that I still have left over. I have to get way caught up- I mean I am starting seven months into the year. I believe I will do the weeks like this: Aine, crafted, accomplished, ideas and *gulp* diet.
To say I have been crazy busy is an understatement. Besides being busy at work and getting ready for Pugfest. This is what we have been doing:
We took care of Pixie. She is coming back in August. Yea!
I am now in the Guinness Book Of Records and was quoted by the Daily Herald. I can finally apply to Google.
I went to the Quilt Show in Chicago. And bought this to make:
I went to the Midwest Fiber Fair with my fellow felter Judy and was greeted with fun roving goodness. Of course I looked for pug fawn color exclusively.
We than went to Emil's to have double decker pizza and my FAVORITE uni go to food- BEER NUGGETS.
(It is just fried dough- not made by beer. Basically this is what you ate when the bars closed at NIU)
Double decker pizza on the top- yum!
I saw a rainbow.
Celebrated the Black Hawks win of the Stanley Cup!
I have crossed something off the preverbal bucket list. I am technically- via proxy of my company #sears - in the Guinness Book of World Records for being one of 565 people dressed as superman in one place! Yahooo! Sears partnered with #ManofSteel movie and you will see our #craftsman and #kenmore brands in the movie as well as a very pivotal scene that takes place in our store.
The media was everywhere at the headquarters so it was quite fun. In fact- I am on the news and in the paper. I think I am still pinching myself. Read and enjoy! Sherwood and 565 other Sears Holdings Corp. employees dressed as Superman Wednesday, determined to break the world record for most people dressed as the Man of Steel in the same place. The old record was 437 people, held by Nexen Inc. in Calgary, Alberta. But when Sherwood saw an email from Sears about a week and a half ago asking employees to dress up as Superman, he said his participation was mainly about helping the company make it into the Guinness Book of World Records. At 11:30 a.m., the 566 Supermen and Superwomen gathered in the main atrium of the company's Hoffman Estates headquarters. "We brought together two iconic American brands: Sears and Superman," said company spokesman Brian Hanover. To qualify, each costume had to feature red boots, a blue bodysuit, a yellow belt, the signature Superman "S" and a red cape, said Philip Robertson, Guinness World Record adjudicator, who came to the event. Each Sears Holdings participant was dressed in the same one-piece cloth suit, red cape and red boots in order to meet the guidelines. The costumes were supplied by Sears, employees said. Each Superman had to check in so Robertson and Sears moderators could get the correct count. The group had to stand in place for five minutes for verification before being awarded the Guinness World Record Certificate. Nancy Beyer, another Sears employee, said she's a Superman fan, but thought the gathering would be fun for anyone — superhero lover or not. "This is definitely one off the bucket list," said Beyer, category manager of IT procurement at Sears. This event was a tie-in to "Man of Steel," the newest Superman movie, being released June 14. Sears is featured in the film, Hanover said. "In the film, Superman catches a locomotive and is thrown into a Sears store," Hanover said. "And Superman's Earth mom, Martha Kent, works at Sears." The cape-clad and blue-suited participants said the gathering was successful, but Sherwood had one complaint as he pointed out sides of his costume. "It was pretty fun, except Superman really needs pockets for his cellphone."
So St Pats was a very tough week. I made St Pats day mini cupcakes and those 2pts went quickly into 22pts. I mean look at these nummy cupcakes?!
Sugar is the devil I have discovered. Hence 2 pt quickly went to 22 pts.
Also we had an amazing corned beef at work that was so good it was worth going off my diet. Seriously the best. corned.beef.ever. They cooked it in Killians beer. First 'beer' that I had on WW diet. But it was awesome!
But I had to get back on that WW wagon and a lot of that is embracing preparing your food for the week on the weekend- or at least that is the easiest way for me to managing it.
Aine here. It was so nice out- we went out for walkies! Mummy wanted me to wear my Irish sweater but she couldn't find it so it was wrinkled shamrock dress in stead.
See how pretty it is?
Yes it is a little tight.
But i still look pretty
Right?
Thank you, I knew you would agree.
Okay off for walkies!
We checked out trees
And we surveyed our domain
I was so tired i went for nappies on Mummy so i can keep her warm while she is studying.
Happy St Patrick's day every puggy! Xoxo Aine and her Mummy who is trying to study.
Still trying to get into the zone of measuring, weighing, shopping two times a week - and we have not even got to the exercising yet! I am so lucky to have the support of my family, friends and my WW group. Also the following websites have been my mainstays: Emily Bites Skinny Taste Laaloosh Skinny Kitchen Hungary-Girl
My favorite dish that is not here but is my go to lunch is my mango chutney chicken salad. It is so easy to make and so nummy.
Here is the recipe: Boiled chicken tenders (chopped fine) Red apple (chopped) Green onion(minced) 2 tablespoons of mango chutney(snipped) 1 teaspoon of ginger 1/4 cup fat free mayo
Mix all together really well and refrigerate. I believe the mixture is 5 points per WW recipe builder. Serving side around 1/3 cup.
And I cant live without my crunch master crackers. You can have 15 crackers for 4 points!
So if you plan it tight- it is about 6 -7 points per lunch.
Now that you see his complete skeleton, that is one bad curvature. He must have been in a lot of pain. It is interesting reading the archeologist's account of what he would have looked like. He would have been five foot eight- which is considered tall during the middle ages if he didn't have scoliosis. The curved spine made him a lot smaller than he really was. Ironically Princess Eugene had scoliosis so bad she had surgery where they inserted rods and she came out of the surgery about six inches taller.
So it makes me curious, how was he able to be such a good soldier with this curvature? Legend says that he also had a withered arm but one couldn't be found.
So was Shakespeare correct in his appearance?
ACT ONE, SCENE ONE
But I, that am not shaped for sportive tricks, Nor made to court an amourous looking-glass; I, that am rudely stamp’d, and want love’s majesty To strut before a wanton ambling nymph; I, that am curtail’d of this fair proportion, Cheated of feature by dissembling nature, Deform’d, unfinish’d, sent before my time Into this breathing world, scarce half made up, And that so lamely and unfashionable That dogs bark at me as I halt by them;…
‘…little of stature, ill-fetured of limmes, croke-backed, his left shoulder much higher then his right, hard-favoured of visage and suche as is in states called warlye and in other menne otherwise.’
I do believe that the Josephine Tey's The Daughter of Time. Had it right, Shakespeare's Richard III was a propaganda piece for the Tudors. So appearance was exaggerated but at the same time I am surprised to see some truth in it.
I am glad they finally found his remains. Xoxoxo Nan and zzzing Aine
Awwww bless she looks like she is starving. She has been extra greedy when it comes to my food lately. I think she thinks she is on a diet too poor babe. Also excuse the mess and the voice. I am recovering from a cold so that means I have to clean!
